Motorola ROKR EM326G Rumors, Other Important Tidbits

Motorola EM326G for TracFone, Net10?

Last week I announced the new line of Samsung handsets to be released for TracFone (I should also point out that it appears as though they will be available on Net10 as well). All of those phones are showing up on both the TracFone and Net10 websites, though are not yet available for sale.

Well, now I have a rather unsubstantiated rumor. This actually came to my attention last month, but I haven’t written about publicly because I couldn’t find any evidence of the phone on either the TracFone or Net10 websites. But, after a couple of readers have asked me about it recently, I’ve decided that the rumors must be circulating widely enough that I should mention it here.

The Motorola EM326G is a new slider phone that looks like it features a music player and will be released at least as a Net10 handset, and probably TracFone as well. So far, I’ve only seen references to Motorola’s announcement of the phone, but nothing official from TracFone. However, on another blog, the pictures released by Motorola show the “Net10″ logo on the back of the phone, as well as a shot of the screen showing an airtime balance display. So it looks like we’ll have yet another prepaid option, and if it does indeed include a music player, I’m sure that many TracFone and Net10 users will be strongly considering an upgrade.

Rest assured that as soon as this phone is released, I’ll get my hands on it to review for this site. For now, though, you’ll have to be content with a few pictures of the phone as well as some speculation as to what features it might include, as shown by the authors of another blog. Click here to find that post.

Changes to the Email Updates

The service that I use to send out updates by email is changing over and the update emails may look a little different after this one. So if you get my new blog posts by email and suddenly stop receiving them the updates, please first check your spam folder to see if they ended up being classified as junk. If you still can’t find any updates from me, come back to this site for instructions on how to get back on the list.

FYI, I will plan on writing another post 2-3 days after this one goes up, and that new post will be sent out by the new feed management service. So if you don’t get a second update email by the end of this week, come on back to pbush14.wordpress.com and look for the email signup link near the top-right corner of the page for more information. And, the site itself will NOT be affected by the change – just the email updates.

Turning off the web browser

Users of both the LG 600G and the Motorola w376g have reported problems with accidentally starting the web browsers of those phones, which then results in losing minutes. There are a couple of options for working around this problem, but the quickest, most effective solution seems to be simply closing the phone if the browser is accidentally started. That will terminate the browser application, and is easier to remember than fumbling around for the “Exit” menu option. This has been mentioned previously in the comments, but I thought I’d include it now in a post for those that don’t always read the comments.

New post coming soon – Why Switch to TracFone

Finally, as I mentioned earlier, I will have another post coming out this week. In that post, I’ll review the results of the poll questions from last week and present, for your review and critiques, a draft of my article on why I think many wireless phone users should consider switching to TracFone. So, stay tuned.

thanks for the note about simply closing the phone if you accidentaly open the web browser. i have opened the web browser by mistake several times and fumbled around to get rid of it knowing that i was using minutes. i wondered if this was a trac phone feature–to have the web browser in such an easy place to accidentally hit it. i looked at a friend’s nontrac phone and his web browser button was in the same place.

I, too, would like to thank you for the tip/note about just closing the phone to shut down the browser. I am not a moron by any means, but I can’t believe I didn’t think of that myself. Probably because as soon as I see my phone trying to connect to the browser, I panic and start pushing all kinds of buttons to terminate the call. Thanks for the heads-up!

EM326G is all over the net from different sources. One pair of pix had the distinctive Net10 Logo in the back. I’d love to get one if it’s priced right.

The Samsung T series trio looks to be on their way to Net10 too as well as Trafone. The T301g is like the EM326 g, a slider.
Those two handsets will be Net10’s first sliders. I think the Moto in particular will beef up Net10’s okay but somewhat lacklustre lineup. I hope both have good prices.

Now if only they’d come out with a qwerty phone…with wifi…lol. In my dreams. They’d probably disable the wifi.

By the way, I have a promo code for Net10 which will save you $3 a handset if you want to know what it is to post on your blog, emai me. Thanks.

This is for Rob. Regarding your post stating: “By the way, I have a promo code for Net10 which will save you $3 a handset if you want to know what it is to post on your blog, emai me,” I sure would like to know that promo code. I’m about to buy the EM326g today. Thanks. (you can get it to me at mnix@tamu.edu).

I called TracFone regarding the Samsung T301G and Motorola EM326G. After nearly an hour of listening to muzak, I finally got through. The person I talked to told me they would have information on the Samsung next week. She also told me that they have received many calls about the Motorola, and that they are working to get it, but she can’t assure me that they will.

I forgot to mention that pictures have sprung up of another Motorola, the W234g. It appears to be a basic candybar phone with a 1.6 inch display, 2.5 mm headset jack, usb, and crystal talk.

The Motorola 326G and W234 just began to appear on TracFone’s coverage map today! Looks like this rumor was true, and they’re coming to TracFone as well as Net10. Despite my other comments on how I feel about Motorolas, I have decided to purchase the 326G as soon as it becomes available.

I have had a 326g for a few weeks now through NET10 as an upgrade to an old Moto V176. I have a 2gb micro sd card installed in the phone which gives me massive picture capacity but I am suddenly not able to send picture messages – I get the folling error: “Memory Full” and “Failed” if I try to save the message to my Draft Folder. I have checked the phone memory, sim memory and SD card memory and all still have plenty of capacity left. I am only trying to send low resolution pictures (approx. 4kb +/-) and still get the error message. I can send regular text messages and was able to send picture text messages either directly after taking the picture or from ‘My Pictures’ menu.

If anyone has had this problem or knows how to fix it, please post and let me know. Thanks a lot in advance!

so does that mean the EM326G will be coming out in tracfone soon??

  9. 13 pbushx2 October 13, 2009 at 3:23 pm

buddy – at this point, I would say it’s unlikely that we’ll see the EM326g for TracFone, as it’s been out for several months now. I hope I’m wrong, but I think we’ll just have to look for the other new phones for TRac

the best way I have found not to lose minutes from accidently hitting your browser button is:
    SETTINGS
    SECURITY
    LOCK APPLICATION
    then check Browser and -browser
If you do that anytime you hit the browser by accident it will ask for a phone lock code.
I found that to be the easiest.

thanks man i always hit that stupid button and lose minutes, sometimes ya cant even slide the phone closed fast enough and ya still lose a minute. ya saved me allot of minutes!

regarding the note from Mjv about locking the phone to keep from accidntally opening the browser. i tried that on my motorola w376g phone. i hit settings, security, phone lock, and then my choices are lock now and automatic lock. i don’t see where i can check browser.

The tip about locking the browser applies only to the EM326g, as far as I know. On the w376g, the easiest thing to do seems to be to quickly close the phone if you accidentally start the browser. This will end the browser session, hopefully before any airtime is deducted.
