Thanks for stopping by. This is my first attempt at a blog. My primary purpose here is to comment on new developments related to Tracfone, especially how to save money on Tracfone. I’ve been a Tracfone user for over five years now, and have purchased, activated, and switched between too many Tracfones to count. I currently maintain service on my own primary phone as well as the phones of 6 friends and family members, and the occasional “experimental” phone.

Sometime during 2007, it occurred to me that I know more about Tracfone that just about anybody I know, and I thought that I could share this knowledge with other Tracfone users. So I began to organize and record everything that I know on the subject. When I was finished, I had 25 pages of text, which I then decided to sell on eBay as an ebook.

In addition to this ebook, I also do my best to share information with my customers that help them to get the best deals on new phones and airtime cards. I hope to update this blog regularly to share those deals with my readers. Please check out my other posts.

do you have a contact page? I couldn’t find one.

do you know anything about the market for used tracfones?

i’d imagine that some people get one, then decide to switch to a contract phone, yet still have minutes on their tracfones.

i just put a net10 phone on craigslist. service expires within the week but it has 600 minutes, so if someone were willing to put up with my old number and the nokia 1100, then this might be a good deal for them.

i’ve decided to switch from net10 to tracphone (just got the w370) because the service lasts longer. a 300 minute net10 card is good for 60 days and costs about 30.00. sure, that’s 10 cents a minute, but it’s 15 dollars a month.

tracfone cards cost 20 dollars (ok, you’re paying 33 cents a minute, but with DMFL and a bonus code, that number goes down to almost a dime) and they last what, 190 or 120 days? at my usage rate (less than 50 minutes a month) i’m not paying for minutes, i’m paying for days. and i’d rather spend 20 dollars every three months than 30 dollars every two months.

I am interested in the motorola w376 but it is not available in my area. Will this phone work in my area? Can I still activate the phone in my area?

  5. 5 pbushx2 June 30, 2008 at 9:06 pm

    Hi Larry
To see if the phone will work, go to the TracFone Coverage Map
Then enter your zip code, and look at the right side of the screen. If the W376G is listed there, then the phone will work in your area. Also, coverage is usually slightly better than what is shown on TracFone’s maps.

Also, if you know anyone that has AT&T (Cingular) or T-Mobile service in your area, the W376g will work wherever the AT&T or T-Mo subscribers get service.

Know of any promo codes for ringtones or wallpapers at the Tracfone ringtone store?

My 10 yo son bought an activated Motorola C-139 Tracfone at a garage sale today ($3). Only has 5 units left, but service is good thru Oct 2008. Before I buy more minutes, I want to know if the phone has “double minutes for life” (DMFL). Is there a way of telling on the phone itself? Can Tracfone tell me if I give them the IMEI number? If the phone doesn’t have DMFL, I might just set it aside and buy a new W376 for $50 with DMFL alreading installed. Thanks for your input!

Follow-up to my own question: I called Tracfone customer service this morning and found out my son’s phone does not have DMFL. So I purchased 2 new W376 phones with DMFL for $50 each from their website; one for son and one for me. The information you provided on your blog confirmed my decision to switch from verizon ($0.40 per minute) to tracfone ($0.10 per minute). An apparent no-brainer for most, but not for this low-tech Mom. Thanks!

P.S. Tracfone said that I can keep my verizon phone number and they will handle the cancellation of my verizon account. All I have to do is call them when I receive my new phone. Pretty easy, eh?

Thanks to net10 guy, too. His discussion of the advantage of tracfone over net10 for his needs was pertinent and succinct.

I was curious to know if you knew exactly how many ringtones you can download onto the LG 600 from Tracfone? The LG 225 would only let you download maybe 3 if you were lucky. For the price you would think it would let you download as many at least as the Motorola 376.

    Thanks

Hi Bobbie – I don’t think that there’s any practical limit on the amount of ringtones you can fit on the LG600. It has plenty of storage. The storage is shared among the photos, ringtones, and voice recording, though.
Also, keep in mind that for some reason TracFone won’t let you download mp3 tones from Trac’s online store. You can get ringtones from other sources (such as other websites and/or friends with ringtones), though, and add them to your phone via bluetooth.

Thanks so much for this website! I’ve been using a Tracfone C139 since last December when I left Verizon. Downloaded your ebook right away — now I finally know how to retrieve my Tracfone voice mail from my landline phone! That alone will be a big savings! I’ve wanted to get a little nicer phone than the C139 and was disappointed to see that you don’t have a review of the LG 225, but I read enough about it elsewhere that I ordered one with the package deal you suggested, and it should arrive Friday. Used to have an LG VX4400, which is a very nice phone, with Verizon. I have no complaints about Verizon — I just don’t use cell phones enough to warrant paying $42 a month and up.
Keep up the good work and I look forward to reading your blog.

Does anyone know how you download pictures from the lg 225 tracfone camera to your computer? My neice has one and we can’t figure it out.
    Thanks.

    Hi Carol
You’ll need to email the pictures from your phone to another regular email address. I’ve never done it on this particular model, but someone else posted instructions for doing so with the Motorola w376g, here:

Maybe those instructions will help you figure out how to do accomplish the same with the LG 225.

Keep in mind that it will cost a unit or two from your airtime balance for each picture you send.

Great website – just joined – due to a friends recommendation. Two things – how do you purchase the cards at a discount?? I see people on ebay selling the cards for 5-10% less than tracfone plus they have to pay the ebay and paypal fees while earning a profit. All told, they must be buying them at least 20% off to put them out for these prices.
Secondly, there is a 20-30% rebate available on live.com for ebay buy it now purchases. Go to live.com and once there enter gift card in the search area and ebay should appear telling you the current discount. I just bought several airtime cards on ebay and got a 30% rebate so I was quite happy – you might want to check into it and add it to your site for other members to receive the pricing

    Hi Kerry
I think that all of the eBay sellers purchase the cards directly from TracFone in combination with a phone. I refer to these deals as “bundle” deals. You get the phone PLUS the airtime card, for the same price or less than the airtime card alone would normally cost. These deals change fairly often. At the moment, the best deal out there is an LG3280 phone + a 1-year, 800 minute, Double Minutes for Life card, all for $100. The card ALONE usually costs $140, so it’s a pretty good deal. You can find more details about this deal here:
